Your Donation Supports the following Community Serving Programs:

LIBERTY SCHOOL:

Liberty School supports students who come from places where barriers are present in their life by giving them access to art. Through Liberty School, students engage with ARTS DISTRICT artists in photography, dance, art, music, quilting and more, building self-esteem and learning new skills that will help them improve in many areas of their education. In 2020, we provided 350 backpacks for Liberty School students, and pivoted the program to provide ART in a BOX, a take home kit for students distance learning to continue to have access to the arts. ARTS DISTRICT COLLABORATIVE PROGRAM:

ARTS DISTRICT Collaborative projects are designed to welcome the public in, and invite guests to reawaken their creativity. Through a formal RFP process, ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station’s tenants were awarded a total of $15,000 for 6 new projects to advance the work of the tenants, engage the community, and continue the transformation of the ARTS DISTRICT into a thriving arts and culture destination for the region. click this link.

INSTALLATIONS AT THE STATION:

Public art has been a part of ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station for several years. Through this program artists are invited to submit proposals and selections are commissioned for temporary installation contracts. These art pieces are widely diverse, site-specific outdoor art installations continuing to transform the historic former Naval Training Center site into a thriving arts and culture destination for the community. EMERGING ARTIST RESIDENCIES:

Finding affordable, quality studio space in San Diego is a challenge for graduating student artists at our local universities. In 2019, NTC Foundation launched the Emerging Artist Residency for recent graduates with an AA, Ba or MFA in Visual/Studio Arts. Graduates were nominated by a faculty member at their school and a committee of San Diego professional artists and NTCF board selected two students. Students were provided a year-long residency at ARTS DISTRICT that included a studio at no charge in a creative environment with opportunities to build their career in San Diego, engage with other professional artists, learn to manage their arts business, and grow their client base for future success.
